Through local, national and global partnerships, Ipas works to ensure that women and girls have improved sexual and reproductive health and rights, through enhanced access and use of safe abortion and contraceptive care.

The Finance Advisor provides technical support to Ipas units by providing budget preparation, management and reporting support to projects. Under moderate supervision, the Advisor will resolve problems and deviations in accordance with established practices. He/she must be able to use initiative to resolve issues independently. The Finance Advisor will work closely with and report to the Country Director and support the project team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial reports
• Coordinates with programs unit staff and special projects unit in the preparation of quarterly forecasts
• Assists in the preparation of templates and tools necessary for the donor reporting and forecasting
• Provides administrative support to the reporting and analysis of the Finance unit, including scheduling and coordinating meetings, training sessions, e-room moderation and file management.
• Assist in the preparation and review of month end reports with special focus on assigned projects
• Performs other duties as assigned

 

Financial Analysis:
• Provide financial planning and reporting support on grants assigned. Actively participate in team meetings and guide project teams on financial aspects of proposals, reporting and grant monitoring
• Conduct analysis of financial status and trends, including monthly burn rate analysis by project, periodic review of budget vs. targets, donor funding trends, obligation analysis, etc.
• Monitor project performance against operating and donor budgets through burn rate and variance analysis


Financial Reporting:
• Prepare donor financial documents in line with donor requirements
• Monitor donor billing cycles, coordinate with other Finance staff to produce timely financial reports
• Prepare project and donor reports
• Coordinate responses to donor questions regarding financial reports
• Prepare ad-hoc analyses as needed

• Provides technical support on multi-unit grants assigned. Includes actively participating in team meetings and guiding various teams on proposals, reporting and grant monitoring


Budgeting:
• Assist the Country Director with the Ipas semiannual budget cycles. Collaborate with members of the finance team in the review and consolidation of the budget
• Assist in donor proposal budget development
• Ensures plans for monthly cash need is accurate, completed in a timely manner, and submitted to the Ipas Global Office as requested
• Performs duties under limited supervision, applying a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures within Finance

Capacity Building:
• Assist with financial training at regional and/or country office levels as needed
• Provide necessary technical guidance to program and/or country office staff

Requirements

Minimum
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 5-7 years’ relevant experience
• Demonstrated strong computer skills - Excel, Word and Powerpoint; experience with financial databases and sharepoint
• Well organised, efficient and able to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
• Detail oriented
• Ability to work successfully in a cross-cultural, team based, global environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to see the big picture, innovate and think creatively
