The Senior Advisor, Management Accounting is a key staff within the finance unit giving daily support to the country Finance Manager on budgeting and budget tracking and donor reporting. This position also works closely with the awards and grants management unit and other direct programme implementing units in regards to establishment of unit costs, development of budgets for new proposals, lead in review and development of annual organizational budgets and liaise with programme unit leads in monitoring actuals expenditures against budgets. This Advisor also takes lead in generating periodic donor financial reports as per donor expectations and timelines and also provides leadership in conducting due diligence on new partners/sub-grantees as well as ensuring a seamless sub-granting process and subsequent accounting of the sub-grantee whilst adhering to all sub-grantee standard operating procedures.  The position is a country-level position, which primarily works with a country-based team and collaborates with other technical units organizationally, as well as with a range of external partners and stakeholders. This position is based at the Alliance office in Nairobi.




  • Support programs unit directly on budgeting and budget development for existing and new grants
  • In charge of development and update of unit costs for both programme and office costs
  • Give guidance to the team under him/her in capturing budgets into the financial management system under the relevant awards
  • Take lead in conducting due diligence on all new partners and sub-grantees before sub-granting
  • Conduct monthly budget monitoring and variance analysis per ward and advise the unit leads appropriately
  • Lead the management accounting team in reviewing sub-grants budgets and contracts in liaison with the unit leads/Project Managers per awards/unit
  • Lead the management accounting team in reviewing all submitted sub-grantee accounting by partners and sub-grantees
  • In charge of donor financial reporting for all awards by initiating the reports and having same reviewed by the Finance Manager before submitting to the Alliance Director for final approval
  • Being a sub-unit lead, he/she shall be responsible for supervision of the finance associates under the sub-unit in finance
  • Responsible for program contract management and over-sight including liaison or financial capacity building of sub-grantees / sub-contractors as needed.




Minimum requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Science or Business Management with specialization in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant of Kenya(CPA-K)
  • Registered and practicing member of Institute of Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (ICPAK)
  • 10 years' working experience with at least 5 years in a similar role
  • Prior experience working with an ERP
  • Prior experience in cost accounting, managing budgets and donor reporting


Preferred requirement

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or any relevant field.
  • Advanced skills working with excel and analytical skills
  • Experience in Financial reporting and SOPs compliance enforcement.
  • Previous working experience working in an International NGO
  • Previous working experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • Experience managing sub-grants
  • Prior experience preparing financial reports
