Ipas works globally so that women and girls have improved sexual and reproductive health and rights through enhanced access to and use of safe abortion and contraceptive care. The Program Associate is a temporary position through May 2018 that works closely with program managers to provide operational assistance to assigned Ipas’s country programs in Africa. S/he liaises with the US office and country programs, subcontractors, and consultants in order to support timely and high-quality work conducted for programs under implementation. S/he adds value by developing and implementing administrative systems which adhere to Ipas and donor protocols. Additionally, s/he must be able to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, as well as effectively support the coordination of program implementation, proposal and report development, and regional budget planning and management. This position will be based in the Chapel Hill, NC at Ipas’s main office.  Can be 75-100% time.



• Manage calendars, agendas, logistics, and meeting notes for meetings
• Support Program Support Team (PST) staff to prepare visa applications, requests for travel advances, and Travel Expense Reports
• Develop and track PST regional and travel budgets
• Conduct financial month-end analyses for the region
• Ensure payments are made in collaboration with accounts payable
• Develop consultant contracts and management payment processes
• Perform initial invoice review for management review and approval
• Perform discrete tasks on projects and/or proposal development efforts under the supervision of other PST staff
• Support Africa PST staff to complete project and program management tasks as assigned
• Maintain project files and SharePoint sites
• Collaborates with Unit Director, Deputy Director, Senior Program Managers and Program Managers in reference to unit meetings, shared tasks, and logistics
• Reports to Program Managers in reference to budget management, workshop planning and logistics, program implementation, and administrative issues
• Manages relationships with external entities including meeting service providers, travel agents, and consultants


• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant social science, with 2 years of related professional experience
• Proven excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
• Experience with developing and managing budgets, event planning, and logistics organizing
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure
• Excellent soft skills, including include strong interpersonal and communication skills, a problem-solving attitude, and being a self-starter who works both independently and as a collaborative team player

• Positive, energetic attitude

• Experience supporting the development of proposals and reports
• Prior experience working, studying, or traveling in developing countries a plus
• Working knowledge of women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights
