  • Overview

    Ipas Knowledge Services seeks a graduate student pursuing a degree relevant to library services to work 15 hours per week in our Library starting in August. Hours can be flexible according to the student’s schedule but need to be between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM Monday through Friday.

    The library assistant will work as part of the Knowledge Services unit which supports Ipas staff in Chapel Hill, Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

    Responsibilities

    The student assistant will have the opportunity to help with the implementation of a new ILS system and the organization of a newly built library space. The work consists of tasks such as those listed below, in addition to special projects.

     

    The student library assistant assists the Ipas librarians with:

     

    • document retrieval;
    • cataloging of print, online and audiovisual materials;
    • support of serials management;
    • acquisitions and collection development; and
    • processing of materials.

    Requirements

    • graduate student in an accredited master’s of information/library sciences or related program
    • able to give 1-year commitment
    • interest in technical services with an eye for detail
    • experience with EndNote citation management software or the equivalent
    • knowledge of Spanish, French, or Portuguese helpful, but not a requirement
    • interest in women's reproductive health issues
    • experience, or interest, in working in developing countries preferred
